Self Portrait

This is my current Artists Statement.

An artist’s statement is supposed to be about what makes the artist tick. I can’t honestly remember how many of these I’ve done so far, and I’m no where near done yet. Drifting from one statement to the next, I’m never quite satisfied with any of them. In a way, the process of my writing these is, itself, the statement. It’s like a self portrait. I’m seeing me clearly through the eyes of someone watching what I’m doing. What I see is this: someone passionate, creative, and active, but who invariably moves rapidly from one idea to the next. Small themes follow through this person’s work, like a personal history that is added to with each work created.

I’m never quite sure where I’ll end up next. Again, art mirrors life, and vice versa. I have plans, I hopes and dreams, but as I move towards them, I find new things that I was unaware of before. With each work I create, I’m always learning something new, either about the tools, or about how I want to use them. This constant interplay between myself and the art is reminiscent of the interactive and creative worlds I enjoy participating in. And since I’m trying to be as candid as possible in this statement, let me tell you exactly how I think these things are related.

What I’m talking about, in plain terms are the ideas of Art and Games. Both very broadly defined terms, either can be applied to almost anything after a fashion. I am deeply interested in both of these, and my deepest wish is to someday be able to bring both together in my life. Whether through pioneering games as a form of art, art as a form of game, or as the artist who articulates the world of the game through visual means, such things make me quite excited.

Illustration

I know it's going to be hard, but I really want to become an illustrator. I've been interested in concept art for a couple of years, and I've been painting digitally and analogue for more than that. I feel like I'm a little behind still, but I'm definitely going to work my ass off at it. Think of this as a belated new years resolution.

Rift

Introducing Lulu.com artwork! I'll be posting things there to sell here, though because the site there doesn't allow very much customization, I'll probably use this page for my primary retail.
