Finally, some art

So, we’ve got a lot of progress on Assault Magister Tactics, including saving and loading the game, starting battles from a hub level, spawning at start locations, and a host of other cool stuff. But we just started on the artwork tonight; we’ve got a prototype character in there now, and she’s adorable. We’re drawing from Final Fantasy Tactics and Sprial Knights, super-deformed characters with big, chibi heads and expressive designs. Hopefully Unity’s new Mechanim will help save a bunch of time for our animations.

Codename: Astram – The First Two Weeks

Hello everyone, I’d like to introduce a new project we’re working on here at Arcandio. The working title is Astram. It’s a touch-style diablo-clone for Android. We’re two weeks in on it right now, and while there’s plenty not implemented, we’ve gotten a lot done in two weeks.

We will be updating the site as frequently as possible, but our Trello Board for the project has the most up-to-date info on it. If you’re interested, drop by and check it out. If you visit, make sure you vote for your favorite features!

Features completed

  • Player Movement
  • Enemy Movement
  • Enemy selection and basic attacks
  • Basic Gui
  • Player and enemy stats
  • Large list of item prefixes, types, and suffixes
  • Saving to XML

  • Equipment Gui
  • Add Non-Equip items (Potions, quest items, etc.)
  • Rescale tap area for characters
  • Character Art!
  • Level Art Design

Hawa: Textures

As I’ve noted before, I’ve been working on a D&D character for the last week. Here’s about 15 hours of progress on her, model and texture complete. I’m going to be adding a ton of props, and maybe even build out some environments for this game, cause its cool as hell.

Textures complete

Seraphiel Renders

I almost forgot (due to Suzuchibi and work) that I had finished the textures on Seraphiel. Here’s some awesome renders.

Realtime render, DX9 3ds Max 2011

Next I get to move on to rigging and skinning her. Fortunately I’ve been learning a ton of stuff from Suzuchibi, so the rig should be pretty easy. And since a lot of things on her (namely the scales and horns) are all rigid to the bones, it should be a pretty easy task to skin her. I’m still just hoping I can get her into an engine to play around with. Eventually I’d like to do a little diorama with her in it, acting cool.

Suzu Mechanics

Here’s another vid of some things in Suzu working. Demonstration of mechanics, such as targeting, movement, holding movement, firing weapons, and crossfading animations based on velocity and input.
Behold, the most massive rig for the least massive heroine

Suzu’s rig is pretty intricate, and will continue to evolve as animation needs arise, but right now its around 60 objects, with only half of them actually skinned bones. The rest are controller objects for animating and so on. There are controllers for the hands, feet, tail, head, and the major joints. She’s also got bones for her ears, and several bones for her sword and other weapons. The weapons themselves will get attached in game. Should be pretty easy to animate. Next up is skinning.

I don’t anticipate that the enemies should be as much trouble to rig and skin, since they need so much less customization. Unfortunately, they’re all going to be different, so I can’t really share animations.

Hopefully we’ll also benefit from Syl’s talents on this deal too, though we’re unsure as to what yet.

Off to skin!

Suzuchibi Desuyo!

Ohayo gozaimasu! Suzumaru desu!

A long time ago, I was working on a prototype for a diablo clone. I got busy at work and kinda gave up on it for a while. I wasn’t super impressed with the character. I’ve since upgraded to Unity 3 and I’m in the process of trying to port over some old assets from that to build a cute chibi samurai game based of that framework.

Here’s some screens from the old project in Unity 2.6.1.

I’m looking into setting up a nifty rig for suzu-chan, one of those separate top and bottom types so she can run AND swing her sword. I also plan to have arrows, kunai, shuriken, and other weapons in there, because samurai weapons are freaking cool.

Look forward to it!
